We are currently recruiting experienced and qualified Freelance BSL<>English Interpreters, Deaf Relay Interpreters, and Lipspeakers to join our professional network on a self-employed basis.

Role Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality BSL<>English interpreting services

  • Undertake face-to-face interpreting assignments

  • Undertake video remote interpreting assignments (RSLI only)

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and impartiality at all times

  • Adhere to professional codes of conduct and interpreting standards

  • Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills

  • Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professionalism

  • Remain impartial and unbiased in all assignments

  • Show cultural competence and awareness in both languages

  • Maintain a professional demeanour throughout all engagements


Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold one of the following (or equivalent):

  • Level 6 BSL/English Interpreting qualification

  • MA in BSL/English Interpreting and Translating

  • NVQ Level 6 in BSL/English Interpreting and Translating

  • Postgraduate Diploma in BSL/English Interpreting and Translating

  • Honours Degree level qualification in BSL

  • Level 3 qualification (Lipspeakers)


Professional Memberships

Applicants should be registered with one or more of the following professional bodies:

  • NRCPD (UK)

  • RBSLI (UK)

  • SRLPDC (Scottish Register)

  • RISLI (Irish Register)

  • Other relevant professional register (please specify)


Compliance Requirements

Successful applicants must be able to provide:

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the UK

  • A valid DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one)

  • Two professional references
